Dengue cases in Bangladesh surpass 70,000 this year

The number of dengue cases in Bangladesh has crossed 70,000 this year, as 651 new patients were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
However, no new deaths from the mosquito-borne virus were reported during this period, the DGHS said in a press release issued on Saturday by its Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room.
According to the statement, of the 651 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, 129 were from Barishal Division, 98 from Chattogram Division, 120 from areas outside Dhaka City Corporation, 120 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 117 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 13 from areas under Khulna Division (outside the city), 29 from Mymensingh Division, 22 from Rajshahi Division, and 3 from Sylhet Division.
Meanwhile, 657 patients were discharged from hospitals across the country in the same 24-hour period. With this, a total of 67,459 dengue patients have recovered and been released from hospitals so far this year.
Since January, Bangladesh has recorded a total of 70,513 hospital admissions due to dengue, with 278 deaths reported, the DGHS said.
By comparison, during 2024, the country reported 101,214 hospitalisations and 575 deaths from dengue — one of the deadliest years on record for the mosquito-borne disease.
