40 Chowki Courts receive computers to boost grassroots justice delivery

The Bangladesh Supreme Court has provided desktop computers to Chowki Courts across the country as part of efforts to modernise court operations and enhance efficiency in delivering justice at the grassroots level.

A total of 71 computers were distributed on Wednesday to representatives of these courts, according to a press release.

Chowki Courts, located at the upazila level, handle both civil and criminal cases.

Currently, 40 such courts are operating in 23 districts, where senior assistant judges, senior judicial magistrates, joint district judges, and additional district judges conduct judicial activities, the press release added.

The new logistical support is expected to enhance of efficiency of these courts, said the press release.

Since the incumbent Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed took office on 11 August 2024, special programmes were undertaken to technologise the courts countrywide.

So far, a total of 400 desktop computers have been delivered to the district courts, while 120 judicial officers have received laptop computer.
