Bangladesh Police have rolled out their iron-coloured new uniforms, initially for the metropolitan units, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and for specialised branches across the country.

Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Public Relations and Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that all metropolitan forces and specialised units such as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Tourist Police, Highway Police and Naval Police wore the new uniform on Saturday.

The remaining units, including district police, will receive the new uniforms in phases, he added.

However, specialised units such as the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and Special Protection Battalion (SPBN) will continue wearing their previous uniforms, said AHM Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Inspector General (Media & Public Relations) at Police Headquarters.

Earlier, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced the decision to change the uniforms for police, RAB and Ansar, following demands for structural reforms and a change of uniform in the police that surfaced after the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024.
