Muslims across the country observed Eid-e-Miladunnabi on Wednesday, commemorating the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) with due religious solemnity.
The government and various organisations observed the occasion through elaborate programmes. The national flag was hoisted atop government, semi-government and autonomous offices, as well as private buildings. Major roads and key locations in Dhaka were decorated with the national flag and colourful banners bearing the Kalima Tayyiba.
The Islamic Foundation organised various religious and cultural programmes, including Qirat and Naat recitations, poetry readings, cultural competitions and an Arabic Khutba writing contest. It also arranged a month-long Islamic book fair at the south plaza of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Thousands of people gathered at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital to join a Jashne Julus organised by Anjuman-e-Rahmania Moynia Maizbhandaria and the Eid-e-Miladunnabi Celebration Council. Devotees from Dhaka and different parts of the country joined the rally.
In Chattogram, the day was observed with Hamd, Naat, Takbir, Durood Sharif and Zikr as people gathered at Sholoshahar from different parts of the city. The Jashne Julus began at Jameya Ahmadia Sunnia Alia Madrasa in Sholoshahar, with large numbers of people joining the procession.
The Jashne Julus, marking its 55th edition in Chattogram, was led by Awlad-e-Rasul (PBUH) Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah (MZI). Shahzada Syed Muhammad Qasem Shah and Syed Muhammad Aqib Ahmad Shah were present as guests.
According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah on 12 Rabiul Awal in 570 AD, bringing a message of peace and guidance for humanity. He also passed away on the same day.
