Dhanmondi shopping complex fined Tk50,000 for excessive noise

A commercial shopping complex in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi has been fined Tk50,000 for generating excessive noise from its central air-conditioning system and electric generator.
The Department of Environment (DoE) conducted a mobile court at Orchard Point Shopping Complex on Road No. 7 on Wednesday following a complaint about excessive noise from equipment installed on the building’s rooftop.
During the drive, DoE officials measured the generator’s noise using a sound-level meter and found it above the permissible limit set by the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2025.
The mobile court fined the establishment for violating Rule 10 of the rules, with the fine imposed and collected under Rule 19(1).
