A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent three accused on fresh three-day remand and three others to jail in a case filed over the 26 September attack and vandalism at New Gini Properties under the capital’s Cantonment police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain passed the orders, said prosecution division Sub-Inspector Tarekur Rahman.
Police produced the remanded accused, Md Mamun, 32, Md Munna, 29, and Shahriar Mahmud, 60, before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
Police also sought the detention of Md Aslam, Md Mizanur Rahman, and Md Shah Alam Anik after they completed their previously ordered three-day remand, opposing their bail until completion of the investigation.
According to the petition, Shahriar planned the attack that day while sitting at a nearby Blue Moon Restaurant. Police recovered audio recordings from his seized phone in which he was allegedly heard instructing others to carry out the attack.
Police claimed around 50 rounds were fired during the attack. They also said contents recovered from the seized phones of Munna and Mamun showed them displaying the firearms used in the incident and making various remarks about the attack.
Around 50 people reportedly entered the New Gini Properties Ltd project area in West Matikata, opened fire, attacked people with sharp weapons and sticks, vandalised and looted a studio, and damaged several vehicles, taking cash, laptops, cameras and other equipment.
