Farmers in Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazilas of Lakshmipur are delighted this season as the Aman paddy has yielded a bumper harvest.

With reaping set to begin in just a few days, farmers are now busy making final preparations. The golden hue of ripening paddy has spread across the fields, lifting the spirits of farmers throughout the region.

Looking over the fields, one sees paddy stretching as far as the eye can see. The high yield has brought joy and optimism to the farming community, who are now deeply engaged in crop maintenance and harvest preparations.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Ramgati upazila set a production target of 23,600 hectares for Aman this season, with a cultivation target of 23,650 hectares. The expected output is 70,950 metric tonnes of paddy. In Kamalnagar, the production target was 19,450 hectares, with cultivation set at 19,150 hectares, aiming for a harvest of 83,494 metric tonnes.

A visit to Charsita village in Ramgati revealed lush fields full of mature Aman crops. Farmer Kabir Hossain was seen inspecting his fields with satisfaction. “Alhamdulillah, we have got a bumper Aman yield this year,” he said. “If the market price is fair, it will be even better.” He expressed his happiness over the successful season.

In Charpagla village of Kamalnagar, farmer Rafiqullah echoed this sentiment. “Compared to other years, the yield is better,” he said. “We received seeds and fertiliser on time. The weather has also been favourable.” However, he expressed concern over market prices. “If we get the right price, all our hard work will be worthwhile,” he added.

Ramgati Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Mujibur Rahman said that farmers were encouraged to cultivate improved and high-yielding rice varieties to achieve seasonal targets. They said the government provided free seeds and fertiliser, contributing to this year’s strong harvest.
