The Supreme Court (SC) has requested the Bangladesh Army to deploy personnel at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) a day ahead of the first verdict delivery in a case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Sudnay, the SC sent a letter in this regard to the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment. Awami League has called a countrywide lockdown programme on Monday to protest against the upcoming ICT verdict against party chief Hasina.
On Monday, the ICT would issue its first verdict in one of the many lawsuits filed over the crimes against humanity allegedly ordered by Hasina during last year’s July-August uprising. The verdict would also be issued against the other two accused: former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has chosen to be a state approver and is likely to get an exemption or a reduced penalty in the verdict.
