The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday disposed of a state appeal filed challenging a High Court (HC) order barring authorities from showing former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque arrested or harassing him without a specific case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, delivered the order.
Khairul’s lawyers include Advocate Kamrul Haq Siddique, Mostafizur Rahman Khan, Barrister Sara Hossain, Advocate Mahbub Shafique, and Advocate Monayem Nobi Shaheen, while Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury represented the state.
On 12 May, an HC bench granted Khairul bail in two murder cases, and on 13 May, the state filed an appeal with the Appellate Division, seeking cancellation of the bail.
On 28 April, the Appellate Division upheld Khairul’s bail in five separate cases. Later, he was shown arrested in two additional murder cases.
Khairul was arrested on 24 July 2025 from his Capital’s Dhanmondi residence and later shown arrested in multiple cases and has remained in prison since then.
