National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof ASM Amanullah on Saturday urged teachers to pursue BEd and MEd degrees and undergo advanced training to enhance their professional skills and expertise.
He said teachers must equip themselves and their students with new knowledge, technology and skills in line with the demands of the times.
He made the remarks as a chief guest at a seminar titled “Importance of BEd and MEd Education in Developing Teachers’ Professional Skills” at the Dhaka Stock Exchange auditorium.
Speaking about the existing BEd and MEd curricula, Amanullah said the current methods and curricula were insufficient, and initiatives are underway to make them more modern, relevant, and career-orientated.
“Students must be provided with knowledge and skills that will be useful in their professional lives,” he said. He said the BEd curriculum had already been revised and uploaded online, and efforts to make it more advanced are underway.
The VC said all the 4,000 curricula covering around 50 subjects at NU would be gradually revised, with 400 updated. “We will see the results of these initiatives very soon,” he said. Amanullah also stressed the need to incorporate the concept of “learning with happiness” into the education system.
Crown Institute of Business & Technology (CIBT) Principal Prof Md Mamunur Rashid presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Private College Teachers’ Council Prof Nazrul Islam Khan and Cantonment Thana Education Officer Lutfun Nahar, among others, spoke at the event. Principals, head teachers and teachers from various educational institutions attended the seminar.
