Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Wednesday organised an awareness programme at Khirpota Ananda Bouddha Bihar in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj to promote menstrual hygiene and safe menstrual health management among women and adolescent girls.
During the programme, participants discussed menstrual health care, hygiene, cleanliness and the safe use of sanitary napkins. Sanitary napkins were later distributed among the participating women on behalf of Shuvosangho.
Tarash upazila unit Shuvosangho President Md Shamiul Haque Shamim chaired the programme, while General Secretary Md Lutfor Rahman moderated it. Ethnic community leader Dhirendra Nath, Ananda Bouddha Bihar President Debi Rani, and Shuvosangho Adviser and Kaler Kantho correspondent Sanatan Das spoke at the event.
The speakers said menstruation is a natural physiological process, but social taboos, misconceptions and inadequate awareness can expose women and adolescent girls to health risks, stressing the need to promote menstrual hygiene, particularly among disadvantaged communities, and end negative perceptions surrounding menstruation.
Shuvosangho leaders said the organisation would continue holding awareness programmes on women’s health and menstrual hygiene in Tarash.
