Denmark has offered partnership to Bangladesh in the health sector, with the two countries discussing shared health priorities and opportunities to strengthen cooperation.
Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Møller made the offer during a meeting with State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit, according to a Facebook post shared by the Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the state minister outlined Bangladesh’s plans to upgrade health services, including developing efficient e-health systems, ensuring access to safe drinking water and strengthening resilience to climate change. He also expressed interest in drawing on Denmark’s experience in the sector.
The ambassador highlighted three areas where Denmark could support Bangladesh through partnerships — diabetes care and management, rehabilitation services for survivors of torture, and strengthening national food-safety institutions, including efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Denmark has a long history of supporting access to clean drinking water in Bangladesh, including in coastal communities affected by rising salinity, which particularly affects women’s health.
Denmark is also contributing to the €300 million expansion of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant, expected to provide safe drinking water to between seven million and nine million people in Dhaka.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on the strong Denmark-Bangladesh partnership and turning cooperation into practical solutions for healthier, safer and more resilient communities.
