Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Saturday organised a tree plantation drive at the Dhamkuri killing ground and martyrs’ memorial in Naogaon Sadar upazila to protect the environment, expand green cover and beautify the historic site.
The second phase of the initiative involved planting native fruit-bearing, timber, medicinal and ornamental saplings around the memorial as part of Shuvosangho’s ongoing efforts to create a lush and clean environment around the monument, following an earlier plantation drive in May 2026.
Dhamkuri carried historical significance from the 1971 Liberation War, bearing memories of atrocities committed by the Pakistani occupation forces.
Speaking at the programme, organisers said planting saplings was only the first step, stressing the need for regular care to ensure their growth. They said preserving and greening the site would create a peaceful environment for visitors, while helping younger generations learn about the Liberation War and develop patriotism and civic responsibility.
Among others present were Shuvosangho Naogaon Sadar upazila unit President Advocate Sardar Salauddin Mintu, Vice-Presidents Molla Ruhul Amin and Azad Hossain Murad, General Secretary Morshed Alam, Joint General Secretary Samina Sultana Lucky, and members Mehedi Hasan Sujon, Majedur Rahman Liton and Sojib Hossain.
