The Appellate Division has dismissed the leave to appeal filed by Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Comilla-4 constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election, seeking to restore his candidacy.
As a result of the ruling, lawyers said, Munshi will not be able to take part in the election.
The order was passed on Sunday (1 February) by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice.
Earlier on 17 January, the Election Commission (EC) had cancelled the nomination papers of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi on charges of loan default.
He then filed a writ petition in the High Court. On 21 January, the High Court rejected his petition and upheld the EC's decision. Munshi then appealed to the Supreme Court on 22 January.
