BNP Standing Committee member and election coordination committee chief Nazrul Islam Khan has described the overall peaceful atmosphere of the 13th national parliamentary election as a positive sign for Bangladesh’s democratic process.
Highlighting a shift from past electoral
experiences, he said the absence of casualties and election-day fatalities
marked a significant milestone.
Although the Election Commission has yet to
officially declare winners, Nazrul said results gathered from different sources
indicate that BNP is leading in more than two-thirds of the seats.
He also claimed that candidates from BNP’s
alliance partners have secured a significant number of seats.
Nazrul said that the people have entrusted
the responsibility of governing the state for the next five years to the BNP
and the party Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Expressing gratitude to Allah, he also
thanked the media, saying the party’s programmes and plans reached the people
through mass media coverage.
On the overall election environment, Nazrul
noted that while 100% satisfaction is not possible, violence was significantly
lower compared to many previous elections.
Referring to the absence of results for the
Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies following a court order, he said
the Election Commission would publish the final results in line with judicial
directives.
Regarding allegations of irregularities,
Nazrul said that anyone making such claims must provide evidence to
substantiate them.
