BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince has said former President Ziaur Rahman remains highly relevant to Bangladesh, with his political ideals continuing to guide efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and build a self-reliant nation.

Speaking at a discussion, prayer meeting and food distribution programme in Dhobaura, Mymensingh, on Saturday (30 May) marking Ziaur Rahman’s 45th death anniversary, Prince said the late president’s vision gained renewed significance during times of national crisis.

He credited Zia with promoting agricultural growth, industrialisation, rural infrastructure development and multi-party democracy in post-independence Bangladesh.

Prince described Zia as a leader of the people whose political philosophy centred on independence, sovereignty, national unity and public empowerment.

The programme, organised by the local BNP and its associate bodies, concluded with special prayers for Zia’s soul and the distribution of food among underprivileged people.
