Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday expelled Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party after an organisational investigation found him guilty of moral turpitude.
Jamaat Central Publicity and Media Secretary
Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer announced the decision in a statement in the afternoon.
According to the statement, an emergency meeting of Jamaat’s Central Executive Council was held at 4pm at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Minto Road in the capital. Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman presided over the meeting, attended by members of the Central Executive Council.
The meeting decided to expel Gazi Nazrul from
Jamaat under Article 62 of the party’s constitution after an organisational
investigation found that allegations published in various media outlets
regarding the MP had been proven to constitute moral turpitude.
The party also decided to immediately inform
the Election Commission of his expulsion.
