Barisal University students asks their VC to step down within April 29

The protesting students of Barisal University (BU) have demanded immediate resignation of their Vice Chancellor (VC).

They (students) asked the VC to step down from his chair within April 29.  The protesters also warned that they will go for hunger strike again from April 30, if the VC does not resign.

The students of BU postponed their mass starvation programme for the same demand for three days and declared that they will continue sit-in programme in front the administrative building.

On Saturday, they staged their scheduled progammes on the campus premises.

They also refrained themselves from participating in academics activities.

BU students began protests on March 27, when VC, Prof SM Imamul Huq, said students who had foiled an Independence Day program were “razakarer bachcha," or, the children of Pakistani collaborators.

On March 28, the authorities shut the university for an indefinite period amid student protests demanding removal of the VC for his remark.

Prof Imamul Huq expressed his regret for his comment the following day, saying it was misunderstood by the students.

Since then, they have been continuing their protests to home their demand of resignation of VC Prof SM Imamul Huq.
