Blazers with slouchy shoulders and loosely-fitted pants are no longer uncool. While women have embraced the oversized trends for a while now (remember boyfriend blazer?), men too are experimenting with wider fits proving that it’s not just the well-fitted tailoring that looks spiffy. And the flag bearers of the oversized fashion are actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Kartik Aaryan, Ranveer Singh and singer Harry Styles. Actor Kartik Aaryan was recently spotted wearing an oversized T-shirt with loose joggers. Ranveer Singh made a case for oversized fashion when he was snapped in a puffer jacket with multicoloured pants.
So what’s making them shift from sharp, tailored clothing to relaxed fits? Fashion experts tell us the reason. “The only reason men were wary of opting for oversized clothes as it didn’t flatter their physique. But with brands like Dior, Gucci and Pronounce making the oversized tailoring look crisper, the apprehension to opt for something baggy has gone,” says designer Dhruv Vaish.“A trend returns in every two decades. During the 80s and early 90s suits and shirts were oversized. But then fitted clothes came into fashion. With men’s fashion evolving, wider fits are back,” says designer Gaurav Khanijo.
“Oversized clothing flatters thinner body types and looks great on taller people. If you are planning to opt for oversized clothing from head to toe, make sure you accessorise the look with a chic belt bag or some accessory to add to the look.” says designer Anvita Sharma.
