Zarin Dia, a suspended BCL leader, on Monday night attempted to commit suicide taking sleeping pills in her residence.
Confirming the incident, Rana Hamid, former social welfare secretary of BCL Dhaka University unit, said, Zarin took sleeping pills at her residence at Azimpur last night.She was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and her stomach was flushed to remove the poison.
She is now out of danger and has been released from the hospital on Tuesday noon, DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia said.
BCL source said the former BCL leader Zarin Dia was shocked after getting beaten up at Madhur Canteen. She completely broke down after she was suspended from the organisation.
Earlier, Zarin Dia, former member of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) central executive council, was among the five activists who were suspended from the organisation following Madhur Canteen scuffle over the formation of its full-fledged central committee on May 13.
On May 20, one BCL Dhaka University unit leader was expelled and four other leaders were suspended temporally from the organisation following the attack on deprived leaders at Madhur Canteen.
The decision was disclosed trough a press release signed by BCL president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani.
