Launch stranded in Meghna after collision with trawler, 250 passengers rescued

A launch became stranded in Meghan as a crack developed in the bottom after it collided with a trawler in Chandpur on Tuesday night. But no causalities were reported.

The launch MV Gowri collided with the trawler at Matlab Dasmina area at around 10:00 pm.

Biplob Sarker, owner of Chandpur launch ghat, said the launch left Sadarghat for Lalmohon with 250 passengers on Tuesday evening. On the way, it collided with a sand-laden trawler at Matlab Dasmina area.

Being informed, Mohonpur naval-police rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers, he said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Matlab Uttar thana Md Mizanur Rahman said the naval police provided security to the passengers after the accident. The passengers have already left the place by another launch for their destination, he added.
