Chhatra League activist stabbed to death in Chakoria

Chhatra League activist Anas Ibrahim was killed and one other injured in machete attack by miscreants during Eid shopping at Chakoria in Cox’s bazaar on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Anas Ibrahim, son of Nesar Uddin from Binamara village of Chakoria municipality. The injured Abdullah is also from the same village and were friends.

The incident took place around 10:00 pm on the night at the municipility’s Western Plaza in Chiringa Biponi Bitan. Police detained two suspect related to the stabbing.

Witnesses said, “Anas and his friend Abdullah came to the mall for shopping. When they were about to enter the mall, a group of 7-8 attackers suddenly swooped on and stabbed indiscriminately with sharp knife. Machete pierced Anas at his belly and Abdullah at his back.”

Initially both of the injured were rushed to Upazilla health complex in Chakoria. As condition deteriorates, Anas died on the way to Chattogram medical college hospital, the sources added.

The customers and shopkeepers were panicked during the incident that lead to huddling, they said.

Some of Anas’s friend informed that he (Anas) had a conflict on a silly matter with one Rubel hailed from nearby 7 no ward. Following the conflict, they had locked into a battle earlier. Anas escaped that fighting and since then Rubel was looking for chances to attack further.

Speaking about the matter Chakaria thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said that the incident happened due to fierce rivalry. The police detained two people in this connection and police kept their searching on for other accomplices.

Anas’s body had been sent for autopsy and wounded Abdullah had been sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital, Habibur Rahman added.
