Nicholls scored 55 off 77 hammering four fours. He was bowled out by Plunkett. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was also taken down by Plunkett.

Martin Guptill fell down after scoring 19 off 18 balls while Williamson scored 30 off 53 striking two fours.

Chris Woakes gets the first wicket of the World Cup final, with a lovely delivery that went off the seam in the opposite direction to how he usually swings it.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat against England in the World Cup final at Lord's on Sunday.

Both sides were bidding to be crowned world champions for the first time.

England lost the 1979, 1987 and 1992 finals, while this is New Zealand's second successive appearance in the showpiece match after they finished runners-up to Australia in 2015.
