Sacrificial animals’ rawhide is being smuggled to ‘a neighbouring country’ after reducing the prices through a syndicate manipulation, led by ruling party, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged on Tuesday.
He made the allegation at a press conference in the capital this afternoon. He claimed that “A syndicate has being manipulating the sacrificial animals’ rawhide market for the past few years in the name of price fall in the global market.”
He also claimed that the godfather of the syndicate is from the ruling party, Awami League.
“A leader from Awami League is the godfather of the syndicate. The scope of manipulating rawhide market has been allowed for him. The government is serving the interest of this vested quarter,” the BNP leader added.
However, he didn't mention any name about 'the godfather'.
Compare to last year, a sharp fall has been witnessed in sacrificial animals’ rawhide prices this year. Seasonal rawhide merchants have been buying large and heavy rawhides at Tk 200 to 500 hundred per piece only. They are not even interested to buy small size hides, according to the media reports.
