Former senior secretary Nasima Begum made NHRC chairman

The government has appointed former senior secretary Nasima Begum as the new chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

It also appointed six members -- one full-time and five honorary members-- for the national human rights watchdog.

President Abdul Hamid approved the appointment, which was published through a government gazette on Sunday.

Former secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed has been appointed as a new full-time member.

Five honorary members are senior advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court Toufiqa Aftab, former chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council Chingkiew Roaza, former senior district and session judge Jesmin Ara Begum, former district and session judge Mizanur Rahman Khan and former secretary Dr Nomita Halder.
