A total of 4,000 seeds of Palmyra Palm have been planted along the two sides of Kayemkhola embankment at Kayemkhola village of Batiaghata Upazila in Khulna to prevent thunderstorm deaths.

The local administration took the initiative to plant palmyra palm seeds aiming to prevent death caused by  lightning strikes and some 100 farmers planted the seeds on Sunday.

Ahmed ZiaurRahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) said the local administration gave training to the farmers of the area in the first week of June on how to sow the seeds and also provided the seeds for free.

The seeds were planted on the both sides of a four-kilometre road stretching from Pankhali to Kayemkhola.
