Death in police custody: 15 sustain bullet injuries as cops, villagers lock in clash

At least 25 people were injured, including 15 bullet-hit, as villagers locked into a clash with cops over death of an accused in police custody in Vendabari area of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Wednesday.

Locals said that Shamsul Haque, 55, son of Mofizuddin, resident Shantipur Mirzapur area of Pirganj, died in Vendabari police investigation centre this morning.

Being informed about the death, villagers besieged the police station and staged protest at noon.

Later, police fired rubber bullets to disperse protesters and brought the situation under control, leaving 25 injured.

Police sources said that eight police members, including ASP, also were injured in the attack.

Additional police super of Rangpur Maruf confirmed the news.

“The injured are undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH),” he said.
