Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinator Sarjis Alam has held Hindu religious organisation ISKCON responsible for killing a lawyer in Chattogram court and urged the government to immediately impose a ban on the organisation.

“We will go for a tougher movement across the country if the killers are not arrested and their exemplary punishment is not ensured,” he said while talking to reporters after a namaz-e-janaza of the victim in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to inform the court about its stance regarding ISKCON.

Saiful Islam Alif was murdered during a violent clash between police, lawyers and followers of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari near Rangam Convention Hall, adjacent to Chattogram Court Building on Tuesday.

Besides, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested at least six persons as suspects in the murder of lawyer Saiful based on video footage.

“It will be its utter failure if the government fails to ensure exemplary punishment over the murder,” said Sarjis, who is also general secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation.

Claiming that the ISKCON is spreading extremism in the name of Hinduism, Sarjis said this organisation must be banned for the sake of the country’s peace and stability.

He said they (ISKCON followers) became shocked when Sheikh Hasna fled the country in the wake of the 5 August student-people uprising.

Not only the interim government but also the Anti-Government Student Movement, Nagorik Committee and the entire Bangladesh will form a strong resistance to prevent such extremism in the country, said the student leader.
