Anyone in Bangladesh can now search for blood donors or register to donate blood through a new digital platform called Roktospondon, launched this week under the slogan “Bangladesh First.”

The platform was inaugurated by Dr ANM Monowarul Kadir Bitu, assistant professor of cardiology at Bangladesh Medical University, and Dr MA Taiful Haque at a ceremony in Dhaka.

Organisers said the initiative is part of the BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform agenda, particularly the pledge to ensure “Health for All” and build a universal healthcare system.

Explaining its significance, Dr Bitu said: “The recent Milestone tragedy was a major lesson. People were running from hospital to hospital due to lack of blood. Despite huge demand, complications arose. That’s why we want a single platform where all blood banks and willing donors’ information will be available, so people can directly contact donors without any harassment.”

Dr Taiful added that the platform is designed to expand nationwide: “In the future, this web app will not just serve divisional cities but also every district and upazila, making it easier for ordinary people to connect with blood donors.”

The event was attended by leaders of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh, Chhatra Dal activists, and representatives of several private medical colleges.

Organisers expressed hope that Roktospondon will become a vital tool to save lives, ensure timely blood availability, and ease the suffering of patients and their families during emergencies.
