Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday placed a comprehensive roadmap in parliament to implement the government’s election manifesto over the next 180 days, the upcoming fiscal year and the next five years, while also highlighting progress already made.
He presented the plan in a written reply to a question from Sylhet-2 MP Tahsina Rushdir during the sixth sitting of the first session of the 13th Parliament.
As Leader of the House, the prime minister said all ministries and divisions begun preparing time-bound action plans to execute manifesto commitments.
He added that several key initiatives have already moved into implementation.
The government has launched the Family Card programme at an initial stage, covering 37,814 women-led households in 15 wards across 13 districts.
A “Farmer Card” is also set for pilot rollout in selected upazilas to ensure better support for farmers. In line with electoral pledges, agricultural loans up to Tk10,000 in crop, livestock and fisheries sectors have already been waived.
The government has also started disbursing honorariums to religious leaders. Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, payments were made to 9,102 beneficiaries, including imams, muezzins, khadems and representatives of Hindu and Buddhist communities.
In the health and education sectors, a project is under process to introduce 2.5 million e-health cards in Khulna under a pilot scheme. Plans are also in place to distribute free school uniforms to 200,000 primary school students within the current fiscal year.
A major water management programme has begun with a five-year plan to excavate and re-excavate 20,000 kilometres of canals. So far, 1,204 kilometres have been completed. Another 1,500 kilometres will be covered through government support programmes. Alongside this, 150 million saplings have been prepared as part of a target to plant 250 million trees over five years.
To strengthen technical education, the government will provide tablets to 9,000 teachers within 180 days and set up 3,832 multimedia classrooms. Free Wi-Fi is also planned for 418 technical and madrasa institutions by June 2026. Language training initiatives have started on a limited scale.
In sports, a new allowance scheme has been introduced for national athletes. Initially, 500 athletes will be brought under the programme, with 129 already receiving support. A central committee has also been formed to identify and develop playgrounds across the country.
The government has taken steps to expand digital and economic infrastructure. A committee has been formed to facilitate the launch of PayPal in Bangladesh and improve management of hi-tech parks and ICT centres.
Student loan facilities have been expanded, with the collateral-free limit raised to Tk10 lakh. The loan process for students going to Japan has also been simplified. The prime minister said the government remained committed to implementing its pledges through coordinated efforts across ministries, with a focus on welfare, infrastructure and long-term economic growth.
