Bashundhara Foundation distributes interest-free loans in Brahmanbaria

Bashundhara Foundation on Monday distributed interest- and service charge-free loans for the 84th time in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria among 426 beneficiaries. 

With support from Bashundhara Group, the loan distribution programme is also being implemented in neighbouring Nabinagar and Homna upazilas.  A total of Tk80 lakh was distributed among the beneficiaries, while Bancharampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Al Emran Khan and Bashundhara Group Adviser Maynal Hossain Chowdhury were present as chief guests. 

Receiving the loan, Halima of Asadnagar village said she had invested the money in her husband’s auto-rickshaw business and was using the profits to expand the business and support her family.

UNO Emran Khan said high-interest loans push disadvantaged people into a debt trap and praised Bashundhara Group’s initiative to provide interest-free loans with a three-month grace period.

Adviser Maynal Hossain said such interest-free loans were not available elsewhere in the world and the initiative had helped many women become self-reliant and establish themselves as small entrepreneurs.

Senior officials of Bashundhara Group were also present at the event.
