The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has sought information on missing government firearms as authorities launched a nationwide special joint operation to recover the weapons, with RAB serving as the lead coordinating agency.

In a statement on Tuesday, RAB said informants could provide information confidentially and securely and would be eligible for rewards. Information can be shared through RAB hotlines 01777711441, 01777711442, 01777711443, 01777711444 and 0255669999. The numbers are also available on imo, WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced on 29 August financial rewards for information leading to the recovery of looted and illegal firearms.

Information leading to the recovery of heavy weapons will fetch up to Tk2 lakh, while tips resulting in the recovery of pistols, revolvers or shotguns will earn up to Tk50,000. Informants may also receive Tk10,000, Tk15,000 or Tk20,000, depending on recovered items, including sound grenades, looted tear-gas shells and other stolen weapons.

The minister assured that informants’ identities would remain strictly confidential.
