Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate a series of development projects worth Tk1,542.16 crore in Feni tomorrow, including the first phase of the Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project in Parshuram upazila.
Originally scheduled for 17 September, the prime minister’s visit was later postponed to 1 October.
Approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on 16 June, the Muhuri-Kahua rehabilitation scheme entails re-excavating rivers and water bodies, repairing flood-control embankments, protecting riverbanks, and upgrading irrigation infrastructure.
State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad visited Parshuram on Monday morning to inspect preparations, surveying the Kheyaghat area, the banks of the River Muhuri, and the public meeting venue.
According to district officials, the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the scheme at Ghata Ghar on the banks of the River Muhuri before addressing a public rally.
He will subsequently travel to Fulgazi to attend several events, including a tree-plantation drive at Khaleda Zia Women’s College, and unveil solar panel installations totalling 962.5 kW across government offices in Parshuram, Fulgazi, and Chhagalnaiya upazilas.
Following a brief rest and prayers at the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow, the Prime Minister will attend an afternoon programme at Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground and hold talks with local political figures and civil society representatives.
Addressing a preparatory meeting on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim stated that strict security measures had been drawn up. Event venues will be split into red, yellow, and white security zones, with over 2,000 police personnel deployed across Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarker confirmed that a multi-layered security blanket – comprising the Special Security Force (SSF), police, Special Response Battalion (SRB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the Coast Guard – will be in place throughout the visit.
