Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam said on Friday that a playground would be built within a month on land cleared after the eviction of a decades-old illegal settlement in the Faridabad IG Gate area under Shyampur.
“An illegal slum had been established by occupying government land for the past 50 years. The place was known as a hub for drug use and sales in the area. Following the eviction, an initiative has been taken to build a playground there. Besides, a new road will be constructed in the adjoining area. If sufficient space is available, there is also a plan to build a community centre there,” he said.
He made the remarks after inspecting tree plantation, waste management, mosquito control, and footpath and road development activities in Bangladesh Bank Colony, adjacent to Faridabad. During the visit, he planted trees at the cleared site and took part in larviciding to destroy mosquito larvae.
Salam said the site would not be allowed to be occupied illegally or become a drug den again under any circumstances. He added that he would inaugurate the playground himself within a month.
He thanked Wari Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami and other police officials for their cooperation in the eviction drive.
He also urged BNP leaders and activists at all levels to work for the area’s development and stand by local residents.
