The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has launched three dedicated country desks for investors from China, South Korea and Japan to strengthen investor services and attract fresh investment to the country’s export processing zones (EPZs) and economic zones.
The desks were inaugurated at the “Meet the Investors” event in Dhaka on Saturday, attended by more than 100 local and foreign investors.
Investors from 38 countries have invested in BEPZA’s eight EPZs and two economic zones. China, South Korea and Japan are the top three investor countries.
The new desks will provide information, guidance and direct assistance to existing and prospective investors, helping address their investment-related needs and facilitate business expansion.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Maj Gen Mohammad Moazzem Hossain said the initiative would strengthen partnerships with existing investors, address their concerns and expectations, and help make Bangladesh’s investment environment more competitive and business-friendly.
“Today’s gathering will help us strengthen our partnerships, listen directly to our investors, understand their concerns and expectations, and explore ways to make our investment environment more competitive and business-friendly,” he said.
Despite global trade uncertainties and economic challenges, BEPZA signed investment agreements with 36 enterprises in the fiscal 2025-26. Exports from its zones reached $8.41 billion during the fiscal year, up 2.22% from the previous year.
The executive chairman said the declaration of BEPZA Economic Zone-1, BEPZA Economic Zone-2, Jashore EPZ and Patuakhali EPZ as full-fledged zones was another significant milestone. He urged investors to expand their operations in the new zones in collaboration with supply-chain partners.
He said the dedicated country desks would help strengthen ties with existing investors from the three countries, encourage business expansion and attract new investment.
BEPZA is also promoting environmentally sustainable industrialisation through waste reduction, reuse and recycling, renewable energy and circular industrial practices. The authority is working to improve investor services through better power supply, healthcare facilities, fire stations, Investors’ Clubs and streamlined One Stop Service facilities.
At the event, BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Md Tanvir Hossain presented the authority’s achievements in investment attraction, export growth, employment generation and workers’ welfare during FY26. He also highlighted improvements in investor services and progress in developing the new economic zones and EPZs.
Additional Executive Director (Enterprise Services and Industrial Relations) Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan discussed workers’ welfare, employer-worker relations, amendments to the EPZ Labour Act and emerging labour-related challenges.
An open discussion followed, during which investors and BEPZA officials exchanged views on investment expansion, service delivery, business challenges and ways to improve the investment climate. The Bangladesh EPZ Labour Act, 2019, was also discussed.
Million Park, general secretary of the Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the potential for stronger business partnerships between Bangladesh and South Korea. He stressed the need for infrastructure development and policy simplification to attract more Korean investment.
Pintu Kumar Shaw, vice-president of EPIC Group, praised BEPZA’s business-support services and expressed interest in investing in the new EPZs in Jashore and Patuakhali.
R N Paul, managing director of PRAN-RFL Group, shared his experience in the food-processing sector and encouraged investors to diversify beyond the ready-made garment industry into high-value-added manufacturing, renewable energy and backward-linkage industries.
Representatives of the Bangladesh-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the event alongside investors from BEPZA’s zones.
