The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority’s (BRTA) Dhaka Metro Circle-1 held a road safety awareness workshop for over 200 students on Tuesday, focusing on safe road crossing, the proper use of footpaths and zebra crossings, and pedestrian safety.
Held in the capital’s Banani Bidyaniketan School and College ahead of National Road Safety Day on 22 October, the workshop highlighted the importance of obeying traffic signals and following road safety rules. The Safe Roads Movement also staged a road safety demonstration.
Transport analyst Partha Sarathi Das moderated the event.
BRTA assistant directors (Engineering) Md Ziaur Rahman and Abdullah Al Noman presented a video and discussed safe road use, road design and management, traffic law enforcement, and ways to reduce accidents through greater awareness and mutual respect among road users.
Among others, Mirpur Traffic Division Inspector Ashraful Alam, Safe Roads Movement General Secretary Inzamul Haque, Nirapad Sarak Chai central executive committee member Md Kamruzzaman, and road safety activist Sofra Jahan Seba spoke at the event.
Stressing that road safety was a shared responsibility, the speakers said educating students about safe road use would help them become responsible drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
The institution’s principal, Md Mashiur Rahman, said educational institutions had a responsibility to teach students to maintain discipline and stay safe on the roads.
The BRTA is conducting awareness programmes ahead of National Road Safety Day 2026 to encourage students to follow traffic laws and help prevent road accidents. This year’s theme is “Safe Roads, Prosperous Country: Bangladesh First.”
