Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB) nabbed four alleged abductors and rescued a victim from Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur from August 20 and August 23.
They alleged kidnappers are Shah Jalal, Mohammad Faisal, Joynal Hazari and Rakib while the victim is Enayet Ullah.Commander of RAB-4 Mozammel Haque, also additional DIG, revealed the information at a press conference at RAB media centre in Karwan Bazar in the capital on Friday.
He said the four kidnapped drivers after hiring cars and collected ransom from the victims’ families.
As per a complaint, the elite force began to search for abducted Enayet Ullah and found him inside a kans grass (a tall perennial grass native to the Indian subcontinent) near a shoal.
The victim purchased a car for Tk 12 lakh and drove it for rent. On August 19 evening, two ‘criminals’ got in his car to go to Madaripur from Shialbari Mor at Rupnagar in the city, the officer said.
When the car reached Kathalbari ghat in Shibchar-Jajira around 2:00 am, another three men introducing themselves as lawmen asked Enayet to stop the car and took the car under their control. Later, they tied his hands and legs with rope and confined him to a small room at Shibchar.
Then, they took the car to Atroshi Manzil at Sadarpur in Faridpur and parked it in the manjil’s parking lot. The criminals tortured Enayet for four days and demanded Tk 10 lakh from his family for his release. They also threatened to kill Enayet if his family informed law enforcers of the matter.
But Enayet’s brother Kefayet Ullah filed a compliant with Rupnagar Police Station and sought legal help from the RAB-4.
Later, RAB arrested the four from Shibchar conducting several drives in Shibchar from August 20 to August 23. Their confession led to the seizure of the vehicle from the parking lot of Atroshi Manzil.
Commander of RAB-4 Mozammel Haque said the criminals had been committing the crime for the last three years. The force is now trying to capture other members of the gang.
