Rab raids three clubs in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) carried out drives at three clubs in the port city on Saturday night.

Sharp weapons and some items used in gambling were recovered from the club of ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra’ in the city’s Ice Factory Road during the drive.

Rab-7 Staff Officer ASP Mahmudul Hasan Mahmud said Rab-men started the drives at the three clubs simultaneously.

The rest two clubs were Mohammedan Sporting Club in Sadarghat and Abahani Limited Club in Halishahar area.

Executive Magistrate Nizam Uddin said they found evidence of playing gambling at the club of ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra.’

Different items, including cards, tables and documents used in the gambling, were found during the raid at the club, he said.

“Some items were removed from the club earlier and drives were going on to recover them,” said the magistrate.

Sources said Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Member Harun-Or-Rashid is the president while Chattogram City Jubo League former general secretary Mashiur Rahman is the general secretary of the club. Drives were going on at the clubs till filing of the report at 10:00pm on Saturday.

Mentionable, as part of the anti-gambling drives, the elite force also carried out drive at ‘Hangout’ club in the city’s Almas crossing area.

They arrested club owner’s son Khalikuzzaman and staff Rabiul Hossain during the drive.
