The 14th founding anniversary of Jagannath University was celebrated on Sunday in a befitting manner.
To mark the “Jagannath University Day”, the university authorities chalked out elaborate programmes which included hoisting national flags, colourful procession, discussion programme and cultural performances.JnU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman inaugurated the daylong programmes by hoisting the national flag and releasing pigeons as well as balloons in front of the university Shaheed Minar at around 9.45am.
Later, clad in traditional dresses, the students, teachers and staffs brought out a colourful procession that paraded different streets of old Dhaka. JnU VC Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman led the procession.
A discussion meeting, cultural programme, photo exhibition and publications exhibition ceremonies was also organised on the campus marking the day.
In 1868, Jagannath Roy Chowdhury founded a school, which was upgraded to a college in 1884. The college was turned into a public university on October 20, 2005.
