Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday formally unveiled the trophy of the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025, marking the official countdown to the global tournament set to take place in Dhaka.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the state guest house Jamuna, attended by representatives of all participating nations. The event symbolised Bangladesh’s readiness to host the prestigious competition for the first time and showcased the country’s growing leadership in advancing women’s sports internationally.

Bangladesh will host the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup from 17 to 24 November 2025 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Dhaka. Organisers from the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation said preparations are progressing swiftly, with extensive arrangements for security, logistics, team accommodation, and audience management.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Yunus highlighted the significance of hosting such a major event in Dhaka and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the championship inclusive, inspiring, and world-class. He extended a warm welcome to the visiting teams and acknowledged the efforts of organisers, athletes, and partners working behind the scenes.

This year’s edition will see 11 countries competing, including Bangladesh, India, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Iran, Kenya, Nepal, Poland, Thailand, Uganda, and Zanzibar.

Although Argentina was initially expected to feature, the team withdrew at the last moment. Japan, Korea, and the Netherlands also pulled out earlier, prompting Poland to join as a standby nation. Pakistan informed the International Kabaddi Federation that their team was not prepared to participate.

To ensure neutrality in officiating, referees from each participating nation have been enlisted. Five referees from India have joined the pool, along with a 10–12 member technical committee from Bangladesh.

Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, who was also present, said the government is actively promoting women athletes and expanding their opportunities in competitive sports.

He noted that Bangladeshi women are consistently proving their abilities on international platforms, calling their achievements a source of national pride and inspiration for the next generation.
