The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for a major expansion, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announcing that two new teams will join the tournament from the 2026 season. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the development on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, generating widespread discussion across social media.
The PSL currently features six teams. With the addition of two more franchises, the league will expand to an eight-team competition, starting with the 11th edition in 2026. The move is widely seen as part of the PCB’s strategy to make the PSL more competitive and commercially vibrant, similar to the model of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which now operates with 10 teams.
Announcing the decision, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi mentioned the expansion was a major milestone.
“Two new teams, this is a dream moment. PSL is getting bigger. The process of selling ownership rights for the new franchises has already begun,” Naqvi wrote on X.
He further revealed that detailed guidelines for interested bidders have been published. According to the PCB’s instructions, organizations wishing to acquire a new franchise must submit their technical proposals by 15 December.
Prospective owners will be able to choose from the following cities for the two new teams: Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, and Rawalpindi.
Ahead of the expansion, the PCB has also completed an independent valuation process for all existing PSL franchises. Renewal letters outlining revised franchise fees for the next 10-year cycle have been sent to all current teams, with a deadline set for them to confirm their decisions.
