Former Bangladesh U-19 women’s all-rounder Reya Aktar Shika has denied submitting a letter to the National Sports Council (NSC) alleging irregularities in the selection process of the Bangladesh U-19 women’s cricket team, claiming the signature used in the document was forged.
“Many people have asked me about this letter in recent days. I want to clearly state that I did not submit any such letter to the NSC. The signature used is also forged. I have attached my official signature for reference,” Shika wrote in a Facebook post.
She later told Daily Sun: “I have no idea who did it. I only came to know about it from a journalist a few days ago.”
The controversy arose after a letter, reportedly sent to the NSC in September, sought an investigation into alleged irregularities in the U-19 team selection. Following the development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a statement saying it had reviewed the selection process and found no evidence of wrongdoing.
BCB officials noted that the letter reached them at a time when the board was occupied with completing the general council formation, conducting elections and appointing committee heads, which resulted in limited daily operations.
Meanwhile, a five-member investigation committee has been formed to probe both the claims reportedly attributed to Shika and the allegations made by former national team captain Jahanara Alam in a recent interview.
The BCB said it remains committed to transparency and will take necessary action once the inquiry report is submitted.
