Haiti have become the first team to be knocked out of the ongoing FIFA World Cup after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brazil.

The Caribbean nation, sitting at the bottom of Group C with two losses from two matches, can no longer progress to the knockout stage.

Haiti opened their campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Scotland and remain without a point after two games. Meanwhile, Brazil and Morocco each have four points, while Scotland have collected three.

Even if Haiti win their final group match, they cannot overtake Scotland. Under the tournament's rules, head-to-head results are the first tiebreaker when teams finish level on points. Having already lost to Scotland, Haiti would remain behind them regardless of the outcome of the final round.

Under the expanded 48-team World Cup format, the top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, advance to the knockout stage. However, consecutive defeats have ended Haiti's hopes of qualifying through either route.

The tournament therefore ends in disappointment for Haiti, who returned to the World Cup after a 54-year absence. They will face Morocco in their final group-stage match, with only pride left to play for.
