A memorial sculpture titled “July Nirbhik” was unveiled at the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) premises on Wednesday, commemorating the martyrs of the July uprising.

DUCSU Vice-President Shadik Kayem unveiled the structure alongside the parents of seven July martyrs, including Shaheed Mehedi Hasan Junaid, Shaheed Sohel, Shaheed Deen Islam, Shaheed Ramiz Uddin, Shaheed Saidul Islam, Shaheed Zahirul Islam, and Shaheed Taher Zaman Priya.

The foundation stone of the monument was laid on 5 August.

Shadik Kayem described the memorial as a symbol of opposition against fascism and a space where students will continue to protest against injustice, adding, “The monument would inspire the students to prevent the resurgence of neo-fascism and campus oppression.”

DUCSU Science and Technology Secretary Md Iqbal Haider described the folded metal structure as damaged but unbroken – representing the unyielding spirit of the uprising.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for the nation and the souls of the July martyrs, led by the father of Shaheed Junaid.

Several DUCSU office holders, including Jasimuddin Khan, AB Zubair, Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, Mazharul Islam, and Anas Ibne Munir, along with hall union representatives, attended the event.
