Iran's Foreign Ministry on Sunday designated Britain's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as "terrorist" organisations.
Tehran came up with the move in retaliation for what it described as hostile actions by the British government, including its designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a "terrorist organisation".
The ministry also designated Britain's foreign intelligence service, MI6, a "hostile group", saying the measures took effect on 1 November, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency.
The decision was taken under a resolution by Iran's Supreme National Security Council and followed Britain's designation of the IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 on 13 July, the ministry said in a statement, Mehr reported.
Tehran also accused Britain of participating in the US-Israeli war against Iran by providing access to military and logistical bases and facilities under British jurisdiction.
The ministry said the measures were based on the principle of reciprocity and in accordance with international law, adding that the British government would be responsible for any consequences.
According to Mehr, the ministry condemned "Britain's anti-Iranian policies", saying they violated the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states.
