The story goes back to October 2010. It was the time when the daily sun, an English language newspaper, was ready to hit the stands. Bashundhara Group, the country’s biggest conglomerate, had decided to set up its own media house with two Bengali dailies and daily sun, to begin with.
I switched to the daily sun from The Daily Star, where I had worked for nearly eight years. A friend of mine, a witty man, made a very interesting comment when he came to know that I had moved to the sun, “You were in the much bigger stellar world, but now you are part of the solar system”. Well said! I tried to counter the statement saying, “I went to the Star to have a dim share of starlight, now I need solar energy!” It was my friend’s turn to laugh heartily.
Indeed, the daily sun was full of energy when it started its journey on October 24, 2010 under the stewardship of Dr. Syed Anwar Hussain who needs no introduction. It was a bright sunny day and there was a very good initial response from readers.
The newspaper was, and still is, committed to a brand of journalism which adheres strictly to professional ethics, while never losing sight of collective good, social justice and fair play.
Clouds blurred the sun from time to time, but it is still shining and looks forward to serving the country and its people with great commitment.
Our best wishes for the readers, advertisers and patrons of daily sun on the occasion of its 6th Founding Anniversary.
Let’s move ahead together!
