Incessant rain in the last 12 hours due to the influence of a land depression over Bhola and adjoining area caused sufferings to city dwellers on Monday.
Normal life was hampered as most of the roads, lanes, and low-lying areas went under water in the capital city due to the rain in the summer.
Most of the main roads were submerged because of the poor drainage system in the capital. The rainwater that causes waterlogging also contributed to traffic jam causing sufferings to city people.
Roads and lanes adjacent to under-construction Mouchak-Moghbazar flyover in the capital turned muddy and slippery due to the rain, intensifying the pedestrians’ woes.
In some places, commuters had to go through chest-deep water to reach their destinations.
Under the influence of the land depression, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue at places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours commencing.
Due to very heavy rainfall, landslide may occur at places in the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, said a Met Office warning message.
