‘Robber’ injured in Comilla ‘gunfight’

COMILLA: An alleged robber was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and police at Mostofapur on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sadar upazila on early Wednesday.

 

The injured was identified as Amir Hossain, son of Abul Kasem, a resident of Gajirhat area in Senbag upazila of Noakhali district.

 

Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Moynamoti Highway Police Station, said tipped off that a gang was taking preparation for robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 2:30am. Sensing danger, the robbers opened fire at the law enforcers, prompting a retaliation that triggering a gunfight.

Amir was caught in the line of fire and got himself injured while other members of his gang managed to escape.

 

Later, police arrested the injured from the spot and took him to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Police also recovered some locally-made arms from the spot.     —UNB
