Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin has said that he never compromised on ethical principles after assuming office.
He made the remarks at a farewell reception organised
by the Ministry of Commerce in his honour, said a press release.
Addressing ministry officials, Bashir said he had
initially come to the ministry with a very negative perception about them but
was leaving with a sense of gratitude.
“I believe you are assets of the country. With
proper leadership, you are capable of delivering results, and you have
demonstrated that,” he said.
Referring to the 2024 uprising, he said the change
it brought to the country must also be reflected in the conduct of officials.
“If anyone asks you to do something unjust, you must
say it is not possible. Or you should politely suggest how the task should be
carried out properly,” he told the officials.
He expressed confidence that 18 February, when the
new leadership takes charge, would be a day of celebration for the Ministry of
Commerce.
“Please extend your full support to the new minister
in demonstrating leadership. If you disagree with him, do so respectfully—but
make sure to communicate your views,” he added.
The adviser reiterated that he had never compromised
on ethics during his tenure and would never do so.
“I have worked for Bangladesh and for our children.
I am leaving with the satisfaction that all wings and departments of the
ministry worked collectively, and that is a cherished memory for me,” he said.
The farewell reception was presided over by Commerce
Secretary Mahbubur Rahman. Among others, Additional Secretary (export) Md Abdur
Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akter, Chairman of the Bangladesh
Tea Board Maj Gen Md Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, and Chairperson of the Competition
Commission AHM Ahsan spoke at the event, sharing their experiences.
Officials of the Ministry of Commerce and heads of
its various departments and agencies were present at the programme.
