Prime Minister’s
Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman on Wednesday alleged that the
opposition was following the same approach used by the “fascist government”
that had fled the country.
He made the allegation at
a press conference on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to the United Nations
in New York.
Ruman said the prime minister remained engaged in various programmes from 7:30am to midnight during his stay in New York, requiring him and other officials to work long hours.
He also alleged that various events were created to overshadow the success of the prime minister’s New York visit.
“We expected the media to report on Bangladesh’s success at the United Nations and for the visit to be discussed on talk shows after the prime minister returned home. But various incidents took place at that time, keeping all media outlets occupied with those events and creating an attempt to overshadow the success of the prime minister’s New York visit,” he said.
Referring to various
obstacles to the government’s activities, he compared the situation to asking
someone to cross a river while tying their hands and feet.
He said the prime minister
had taken charge of the country in a fragile state and urged everyone to
cooperate with the government rather than create obstacles.
“Prime Minister Tarique
Rahman genuinely wants to build a prosperous and green Bangladesh. Please cooperate
with the government,” Ruman said.
